MISSION STATEMENT
 
STRENGTHENING COMMUNITIES
THROUGH SAFE AND HEALTHY FAMILIES

Center for Healing Childhood Trauma ("Center for Healing"; "the Center") has been providing counseling and education services to victims of child abuse and their families since January of 1990. Center for Healing Childhood Trauma is the DBA for the 501 (c)(3) charitable non-profit corporation People Against Childhood Trauma c1615033.

The Mission Statement is: STRENGTHENING COMMUNITIES THROUGH SAFE AND HEALTHY FAMILIES

The 2005 Project NO CHILD TURNED AWAY is a response to the crisis that abused children are already experiencing as a result of the California budget crisis. Public agency referral sources have, as recently as March 10, received a directive from the County Board of Supervisors to cut their budgets by 21%. As early as the summer/fall of 2003 the referring public agency began making necessary adjustments, such as, approving the most appropriate specialized treatment (general counseling, while very important and effective in many cases, is just not what the abused child and family will most benefit from); treatment for the length of time needed; redefining indicators of risk required to open a case (no case opened means no financial aid for services). We are making an appeal to the private sector to join with us in our determination to see that these children get what they most need and what they deserve. Together we can make sure that NO CHILD is turned away. If all of us join together the child of today can look forward to a safe future.

Project Goal: a minimum of $159,000.00 from private sector donation for direct services to 34 children.

The Center has been a primary referral source used by the County of San Bernardino, and has is only provider in San Bernardino County that treats the entire family of abuse. Child abuse victimizes the whole family and unless the parents as well as the child(ren) receive the appropriate help the prevention of future abuse cannot be expected. The treatment applied at Center for Healing is a Program approach and is the most appropriate available. The very comprehensive services include:

 
  1. Psychological counseling
  2. Psycho educational counseling and training
  3. Psycho social
  4. Peer group counseling for victims ages 4-17
  5. Peer group counseling for siblings ages 4-17
  6. Peer group counseling for adults
  7. Individual counseling for children 3-17
  8. Individual counseling for adults
  9. Parent-child bonding education
  10. 40 hour curriculum in Parent Education
 

The Center receives referrals and treats clients from San Bernardino, Orange, Riverside and Los Angeles Counties.  The greatest geographical area of service is San Bernardino County.  In the year 2003 Orange County referrals to the Center increased over other years more than any of the other service areas.

Primary sources of income are (1) fees for service, (2) donations, (3) a small county grant.
